Semu Huaute (1908 CE-2004 CE), Semu Huaute (known as Grandfather) was the last Chumash medicine man and was one of the last few 100% Chumash. He was born into the Owl Clan in the mountains near Ojai, California and was one of the most renowned and respected medicine men in the nation. His father was a respected healer of the Road Runner clan. His apprenticeship began with the elders from the Chumash, Yaqui, and Aztec Indian peoples. This journey took him most of forty years.
